CHINA CHANGED MY MIND PROJECT
One of our lovely clients asked if we would be willing to support them in turning a 70-year-old book by David Morris, China Changed my Mind into a facsimile eBook ready to upload to Amazon Kindle.
about the FAU China Convoy in WW2.

Like many others of his generation who were born into a world that followed "the war to end all wars" he was already a committed Christian Pacifist. Little did he know that the adventure that he thought that he was embarking on in Oxford was about to take a very different turn with the onset of the Second World War. China Changed My Mind is a very simple yet compelling account of his experiences as a Conscientious Objector who joined the Friends' Ambulance Unit China Convoy. The notes from the original jacket are somehow still strangely poignant today: -
The services we used to turn a 70-year-old book into a professional scanned finish, with OCR (optical character recognition) was one that we are all very proud off. Working with Chris' project team we prepared each page to HQ TIFF images. The pages were then cleaned, removing pencil marks, ink marks and any other minors that needed replacing. Once approved the scanned pages were passed through ABBYY FineReader, one of the leading OCR software programs available before being handed over to Chris for the final preparations.
“I knew from the moment I met Cheryl that I had come to the right company - there was a sense of confidence, of a personal service and attention to detail, and absolute professionalism.
The brief was seemingly straightforward: to scan a 1948 book, in good condition, ex Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and to republish it on Amazon Kindle.
Never seemingly straightforward - stamps and blemishes were removed, scans were exchanged, detailed reviews were done page by page, backgrounds were changed and finally a fully searchable pdf file was delivered for publication.
Still not seemingly straightforward - Kindle Create needed the cover separating from the manuscript; it didn’t respond well to my newly created Introduction and Preface; type was scrambled, and it looked awful. The pdf was disassembled and imported again into Kindle Create and finally the 1948 memoirs of a 22-year-old Conscientious Objector working for the Friends Ambulance Unit in WW2 China came back to life again - success!”
